Customers of ImOn Communications should be wary of receiving phone calls from a company requesting personal information.
The Cedar Rapids-based internet and TV service provider said Thursday it was made aware of a phone scam targeting its customers. Under the scam, a caller from “Nebraska Telephone and Telegraph Co.” claims to be affiliated with ImOn and that it is taking over ImOn’s phone lines.
The caller also has tried to acquire customers’ personal information by posing as an ImOn agent, ImOn said.
“Nebraska Telephone and Telegraph is not affiliated with ImOn Communications and customers should not provide personal information to this company,” ImOn said in a statement.
“We have notified our customers of this scam and recommend if they have given personal information to contact ImOn Customer Care at 319-298-6484 and to contact their financial institution or authorities if credit card or bank account information was given out.”
ImOn also posted messages on Facebook and Twitter that warn about the scam.
Folience, The Gazette’s parent company, has a financial investment in ImOn.
