Major General Bernard Gordon Lennox, who has died aged 85, was an exemplary Grenadier Guards officer.
Gordon Lennox embodied every element of his regiment; its bearing, its spirit, its outlook and the way in which it conducted itself. Allied to a formidable presence was his reputation for tolerating nothing less than the very highest standards.
Unswerving in his principles, resolute and decisive as a leader, he commanded the greatest respect of those he encountered, yet it was his unstinting support and concern for all – whether family, employees or soldiers – that earned him the affection of so many.
