Prof: Being targeted for Dalit identity

After Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Dean of Students’ Umesh Ashok Kadam alleged that he was being targeted by the Left faction because he belongs to Dalit community, Dr Ambedkar Teachers Forum came out in his support slamming those Professors who allegedly targeted him on caste basis.

Kadam was recently targeted by the Left students led by JNU Students Union, who allegedly manhandled and abused him on the issue of mess fees revision. Kadam alleged that he had also being targeted several times in the past by his colleagues on "caste lines".

Pravesh Kumar, Assistant Professor at JNU and member of Dr. Ambedkar Teachers Forum said "caste is deep rooted in mentality of many of professors in JNU who claim themselves to be liberal. Umesh Kadam was targeted in past and is being targeted now only because he is a Dalit," said Pravesh.

"We will not rest unless and until the justice is done with Kadam. You can just imagine the situation outside when in educational institutions like JNU such things are happening with a Professor," he said. Umesh Kadam is said to have reported the matter in SC/ST Commission complaining against one of the professors for using caste based remarks against him.
