ALLAHABAD: The police are yet to work out as many as 10 murder cases pending for the past two years in the district. Six out of these cases are pending with Kareli, Kydganj, Georgetown, Dhoomanganj and Colonelganj police stations in city limits.
The list of
unclosed cases includes the killing of city's leading surgeon Dr A K Bansal, who was gunned down by unidentified assailants inside his chamber near Bai Ka Bagh area under the jurisdiction of Kydganj police station on January 12, 2017.
While reviewing the list of
unsolved murder cases, police authorities claimed that a total of 10 cases, including four cases of 2016, three cases of 2017 and three of 2018 are still pending with various police stations of the district.
IG (Range) Ramit Sharma said that the department was taking the issue seriously and he has directed his subordinates to solve these cases at the earliest.
The oldest unsolved murder case is pending with Colonelgaj police station wherein some unidentified miscreants had killed a senior citizen at Fatehpur Pichwa, Tagore Town area under the
Colonelganj police station on February 15, 2016. However, the cops are groping in the dark even after a lapse of two years.
Similarly, three murders registered with Kareli, Georgetown and Meja police stations in 2016 are yet to be cracked. Three other cases registered with Kydganj and Dhoomanganj police stations in 2017 too remain unsolved, exposing the working style of the police.
Besides, three cases registered with Tharwai, Manda and Soraon police station in January and February this month are yet to be solved.
Though police claimed to have solved the triple and double murders that rocked the Sangam city recently, piling of unsolved cases has put senior police officials in a piquant situation.
Police records claimed that a total of 121 murders were registered in 2017 while as many as 21 cases were reported between January 1, 2018 and March 15, 2018.
