Twitter is latest tech company to lose its security chief
Twitter Inc.'s chief information security officer, Michael Coates, is leaving the company, amid a wave of security-chief departures from major tech companies this week. Coates confirmed his departure in a tweet Wednesday, after the news was first reported by The Verge. Coates said he was leaving to start his own security company, and had announced his departure internally a few weeks ago. Also Wednesday, Michael Zelewski, the director of information security engineering at Alphabet Inc.'s Google, announced he was leaving the company after 11 years, and on Monday the Wall Street Journal reported Facebook Inc.'s security chief, Alex Stamos, plans to leave the company in August.
Meredith announces more than 1,000 jobs cuts, plans to sell Time, others
Meredith Corp. said late Wednesday it plans to axe more than a thousand jobs weeks after it acquired Time Inc. with plans to sell off several publications. Meredith said it plans to save $400 million to $500 million a year starting with the elimination of 200 positions with 1,000 more to be cut over the next 10 months. "We have made significant progress executing on these initiatives since we closed on the acquisition just six weeks ago," said Tom Harty, Meredith chief executive and president, in a statement. "For example, today we are announcing we have completed our portfolio review and decided to explore the sale of the TIME, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, and Money brands." Back in November, Meredith said it would acquire Time. Shares of Meredith were unchanged after hours, and were flat in Wednesday trading, closing at $53.80.
JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon makes 364 times typical worker
JPMorgan Chase & Co. Chief Executive Jamie Dimon received $28.3 million in total compensation in 2017, which the company said late Wednesday was 364 times the salary of a typical JPMorgan worker. Companies this year are reporting their CEO pay in relation to the compensation of a median worker for the first time as a result of a 2015 rule mandated by the Dodd-Frank act. JPMorgan said its median employee earned $77,799 in 2017. Dimon's compensation included a $1.5 million salary, $5 million in a cash award, and $23 million in performance share units. JP Morgan share have gained more than 31% in the past 12 months, compared with 16% gains for the S&P 500 index and 19% for the Dow Jones Industrial Average. AT&T, Berkshire Hathaway, Boeing, General Electric, and other major companies have reported their CEO pay ratios in their Schedule 14A document.
