Youngsters aspiring to be photographers or photojournalists must inculcate in them the value of zero compromise on ethics, said Ra. Chezhiyan, cinematographer and film maker while speaking at a national-level workshop on photojournalism at Madurai Kamaraj University here on Tuesday.
Highlighting the importance of social responsibility for photojournalists, he said that they must focus on capturing the decisive moment in the events they covered, which, he said, was the most important aspect of photojournalism.
Inaugurating the programme, which included a national-level photography contest and technical sessions by experts, Vice-Chancellor P.P. Chellathurai highlighted the crucial role played by the media in ensuring justice to all sections of society without any discrimination.
He highlighted the need for photojournalists to be risk takers.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Journalism and Science Communication, which hosted the event, 181 entries from seven States were received for the photo contest on the theme ‘My culture, my pride.’
Twenty best photographs from the entries were exhibited at the event.
A photography club, which will exhibit best photographers taken by MKU students every month, was also inaugurated on the occasion.
