Exceeding Rs.50,000 crore for the first time, the Delhi government on Thursday tabled a Rs.53,000 crore Budget for 2018-2019 that focused on education once again and added new features like a Green Budget and timelines for all proposed projects.

Presenting the fourth budget of the Aam Aadmi Party dispensation, Finance Minister Manish Sisodia said “trickle up economics” as opposed to the trickle-down model adopted by others had been the guiding principle of the government since it took office in February 2015.

Here is how the Budget estimate measures up to the previous years:

“In the last three years, the Budget increased by Rs. 23,000 crore – from Rs. 30,000 crore to Rs. 53,000 crore...This is the result of honest governance. The raid raj in Delhi was stopped, tax reforms were initiated, trust was placed in our traders,” said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Sector-wise expenditure

Education got the highest % allocation of the total Budget again this year at 26% or Rs.13,997 crore allocated.

Education expenditure

This is also the highest amount allocated to the sector ever. Here's how the education expenditure stacks up over the last four years.

Health Expenditure

The amount of money allocated for the health sector has been growing steadily over the years. Rs. 6,729 crore has been allocated this year, at 12.7% of the total budget.
