Two brothers drowned in a canal while playing cricket in south-east Delhi’s Jaitpur on Wednesday morning, the police said.

Vishesh (12) and Abhishiek (14) lived with their parents in Badarpur’s Bilaspur camp. A passer-by called the police control room around 11 a.m. saying that two children had drowned in Agra canal. A police team and Delhi Fire Services personnel reached the spot. The bodies were recovered after a two-hour search operation. The victims were taken to a hospital, where they were declared brought dead. Their father Dinesh Kumar, who works in a factory in the area, was informed about the incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said, “Preliminary probe has revealed that the boys were playing cricket near canal when the ball fell into the canal. Vishesh went to get the ball but slipped inside and Abhishiek drowned while trying to save him.”
