Visit Malaysia 2020By the year 2020, the Malaysia Tourism Transformation Plan is all set to initiate development towards the realization that Malaysia will be successful in attracting 36 million tourists and register RM168 billion in tourist receipts. The Visit Malaysia 2020 initiative not only targets to compete with all the significant industry players in meeting their common goals but is also a kind of invitation to welcome worldwide tourists to experience their warm hospitality and diverse tourist attractions. For Malaysia, India has always been a significant market. In the midst of tough competition from Thailand, Singapore etc, Malaysia had to reinforce its strength and go all out to get the fair share of the Indian outbound pie.

Currently, sales mission is one of the recent trends to connect directly with the city travel trade that embraces the nerve of the outbound travel from any city. At present, 16 top members of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) are on a sales mission to India and Bangladesh to utilize this potential in a positive manner.

To quote, Sulaiman Suip, Director (North & East India) as informed India Outbound, “India is one of ‘the’ most important markets for our tourism industry. Last year our arrivals from this market dropped slightly, by 13 pc. But this year we are very much upbeat in terms of our promotional campaigns and strategies and we are targeting at least one million Indian tourists by the end of the year. We have not been very aggressive in the eastern part of India which is strategically closer to Malaysia. This year we will go to more Tier II and Tier III cities.”
