HKES elections: Close contest for president’s post

The March 23 elections to the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society (HKES) is turning out to be a close fight for the post of president between the outgoing and four-time president Basavaraj Bhimalli and the former joint secretary Bheemashankar Bilgundi. Members of both sides are campaigning in full swing and adopting different strategies in approaching voters.

Shivanand Devarmani is contesting for the post of vice-president from Mr. Bilgundi’s panel, against the outgoing vice-president Suryakant Patil of Mr. Bhimalli’s panel.

As many as 13 candidates will contest from each panel for the governing council member posts.

Mr. Bhimalli is banking on the developmental work taken up in all the educational institutions of HKE society during his tenure as president.

While Dr. Bilgundi is going to voters with the promise of bringing transparency and good administration in the society. He is banking heavy on the clean image of the panel, and promoting women contestant for governing council members list and also focusing on conducting free and fair elections.

Mr. Bilgundi has the support of two former presidents, B.G. Jawali and Shashil G. Namoshi.
