Government doctors protested against the State’s move to do away with reservation for them in postgraduation admission, arguing that reservation was needed to level the playing field.
Until last year, 30% reservation was provided to government doctors in admission to postgraduation. Through an order on Tuesday, the State government did away with the quota.
On Wednesday, representatives of the Telangana Government Doctors’ Association staged a protest at Director of Medical Education’s office.
“For a doctor in government service, it’s difficult to match the performance of a non-service aspirant in NEET. The government has launched many schemes for which doctors have to work and do not have time to prepare for the test. Even with added the weightage of marks that the government has now introduced, the service doctors cannot compete,” said P. Praveen of the Telangana Government Doctors’ Association.
Dr. Praveen claimed that an attempt to remove reservation was made last year, but doctors were able to prevail upon the government. He said they would seek recourse to court if the government does not heed their demand.
Meanwhile, Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences notified online admissions for candidates who have qualified the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) this year. Online applications can be submitted on www.tspgmed.tsche.in from March 23 to 28.
