NIB, police raid house at Kodungaiyur

The police on Tuesday arrested a 20-year-old youth for allegedly growing ganja plants in his house at Kodungaiyur.

According to police, they received information about ganja plants being grown in a house on Abirami Street, Kodungaiyur.

The police informed the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau about the issue and together they raided the house.

They found 10 flower pots, of which two had ganja plants. “There were 10 plants, each grown to a height of one feet. It was growing amidst other plants,” said a senior police officer. Further investigation revealed that the plants were being maintained by one Ganesh.

“He works as a PVC door fitter. He is suspected to have often smoked ganja and dropped the remnants in the flower pot in his house. We found many cigarette butts in the pots in his house. He seems to have inadvertently sown the seeds of ganja in the pot in the process,” said an officer. The NIB is conducting a detailed investigation.

Previous incidents

Earlier in February, two persons were arrested by the Royapettah police for growing ganja plants in their house. In January, the K.K. Nagar police arrested an unemployed mechanical engineer who grew ganja plants in his house.

Sources from the NIB said that the weather in Chennai is not conducive for growing ganja. “Some teenagers try to grow it and land in trouble. We are creating awareness among the youngsters about the dangers of using narcotic substances,” said an officer.
