TROY — City police arrested one person and are searching for another who fled when a multiple car crash Tuesday ended in a marijuana bust.
An officer was patrolling Sixth Avenue at 6:10 p.m. when he saw a green Dodge Charger speed by him, police said. The officer followed the car in an attempt to catch up to it, as the Charger blew through stop signs and began to drive recklessly.
The officer radioed for backup as he turned onto Second Avenue and saw the car had crashed into several other vehicles and come to a stop. The driver had already fled.
Officers found nearly 13.6 ounces of marijuana — a weight about as heavy as a football — inside the car, as well as roughly $3,200 in cash, police said.
A passenger — 23-year-old Thomas J. Quick of Troy — was arrested and charged with one count of felony criminal possession of marijuana. He was arraigned in Troy City Court Wednesday morning.
Police are still investigating the fleeing driver, who has not yet been arrested.
Some of the people inside the cars the Charger crashed into suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment, police said.
