Two held for smuggling gold worth Rs 1.4 cr at Delhi airport

Two men were today arrested by the customs for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valuing about Rs 1.4 crore at Delhi airport, an official statement said.

The arrests took place in two separate incidents.

In the first case, a passenger was intercepted after his arrival from Dammam.

"His personal and resulted in recovery of gold weighing 2.5 kg, in the form of 40 pieces of sheet concealed in the ten emergency light battery carried by him, having market value of Rs 75.65 lakh," the statement issued by the customs said.

The value of the gold, which has been seized, in these two cases is about Rs 1.4 crore, the statement said, adding that both the passengers have been arrested.
