Opposition leader and DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Tuesday said the permission given to the Ram Rajya Rath Yatra and the arrest of those who opposed it had created a doubt in the minds of the people whether Tamil Nadu was being ruled by the AIADMK or the BJP.
“The AIADMK government is playing second fiddle to the BJP government,” Mr. Stalin told reporters.
He alleged that the rath yatra entered Tirunelveli district with the aim of creating communal clashes and its presence would affect law and order in the State. He said Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) leader M.H. Jawahirullah and VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan were arrested for opposing the yatra. “The government has imposed prohibitory orders to prevent protests. It is ridiculous that it has provided protection to those who are inciting violence and arrested those who opposed it,” he said.
When asked about the damage caused to the Periyar statue in Pudukottai, he said BJP leader H. Raja had made derogatory remarks against Periyar, and if the government had taken action against him, this incident would not have occurred.
