A 29-year-old man was arrested on charges of a home invasion in Milford on Friday after reportedly jumping on the back of a resident and preventing the person from calling the police.

Officers responded Friday at 2:10 a.m. to the Brightway Commons Apartment Complex on Tull Way for a report of a home invasion, Milford police announced Wednesday.

Officers discovered the intruder forced himself through a locked apartment door and entered. He then jumped on the resident, preventing the person from calling the police and stole several items from the apartment, Detective Timothy Maloney said.

The resident was uninjured in the incident, Maloney said.

Later that Friday, police responded to a welfare check in the area of U.S. 113 North and Seabury Avenue, where they found a man with a similar description as the intruder, Maloney said.

The Milton resident was identified as Anthony Rufus, 29, and was taken into custody, Maloney said.

Rufus was positively identified by the resident in a photo lineup.

Rufus was charged with home invasion, second-degree robbery, malicious interference with emergency communications intentionally prevent or hinder, offensive touching and criminal mischief under $1,000.

He was committed to the Department of Correction in default of $25,000 secured bail and ordered to have no contact with the victim.
