Arizona men's basketball coach Sean Miller said in a statement issued Wednesday that he is not a candidate for the coaching vacancy at Pittsburgh.

"I am not a candidate for the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball head coaching vacancy," Miller said in the statement. "I wish them well in their search for a new coach."

Miller's statement comes in response to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette story that reported Miller and Pitt athletic director Heather Lyke had discussed the head coaching position and that Miller had interest.

Miller played point guard for Pittsburgh from 1987-1992 and was an assistant for the Panthers in the mid-1990s.

Miller just concluded his ninth season at Arizona after the Wildcats were upset in the first round by No. 13 seed Buffalo. The season was marred with controversy due to the program's ties to an FBI probe into illegal recruiting. Miller denied an ESPN report that claimed he was caught on a federal wiretap offering $100,000 to freshman All-American Deandre Ayton, and missed a regular season game because of the backlash.

Pittsburgh fired coach Kevin Stallings earlier this month after the team recorded zero wins in ACC play. Several key players have transferred or requested transfers from the program.
