Working on a tip-off Bokaro police arrested the fifth criminal involved in the SBI ‘locker break’ incident occurred on 26 December 2016 night at State Bank of India, Administrative Building branch at Bokaro Steel City.
Md Akhtar a member of an inter-State thief’s gang was arrested from Sector 1 Ram Mandir market on the tip-off and sent to jail, police said. “Later after the order of CJM we have taken Akhtar on remand for three days for further investigation,” he added.
Akhtak is a resident of House No. 23, Mothertalla, Howrah West Bengal. He rushed to Bokaro and wants to surrender in the court but police arrested him before. He was also involved in the SBI locker break incident, said MM Prasad Sinha, Officer-in-charge of City Police station Bokaro.
In the ‘locker break’ incident, thieves escaped with ornaments and valuables over 8 crore rupees after breaking the 76 lockers of the bank on Christmas holiday. Out of 76 lockers, four were empty, informed the police.
After the incident, Bokaro police announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for those who provide relevant information about the gang who stolen ornaments and valuables from the bank’s locker. Later on 2 January two members of the gang Ghisu Ghosh and Md Salim Sekh, the resident of Rajmahal police station of Sahabganj were arrested and police recovered two gold chains and Rs 87 thousand cash from their possession. After few days police also arrested Jitender the third member of the gang from Sahabganj and Javed Ansari the fourth one from Howrah, police said.
“Hunt for the kingpin of the gang Hasan Chikna and one more are on,” said Kartik S SP Bokaro.
