Jean-Yves Fillion, the CEO of BNP Paribas USA, was hosting the post-final presentation ceremony at Indian Wells on Sunday where the clue could have been dropped.
Federer was understandably dejected having squandered three match points and being beaten by Juan Martin del Potro.
But it remains a rare defeat for the 20-time Grand Slam champion, who remains at the top of his game despite being 36.
There is uncertainty over how long the Swiss will go on for given he's managing a long-term back problem.
Although Fillion appears to have confirmation that Federer will at least play on for another year.
Addressing the crowd, Fillion said: “I’m delighted to announce the bank has announced the bank has renewed our sponsorship of this tournament for the next five years.
"We look forward to seeing you in the years to come.
"We saw a riveting match that was a fitting end to this tournament."

He then turned to Roger Federer and said: "Well, Roger, so close. The only thing I can tell you is I know we will see you back again here Indian Wells in the final match and we look forward to it.
"You played a wonderful tournament."
