Sachin Tendulkar, the co-owner of Kerala Blasters, has expressed his concern over the Kerala Cricket Association’s (KCA) decision to conduct the one-day International match between India and West Indies in Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru International stadium.
Sachin Tendulkar in a tweet said he was worried about the potential damage to the FIFA-approved world class football turf in Kochi and urged the KCA to take the right decision where cricket (Thiruvananthapuram) and football (Kochi) could happily coexist.
He also tweeted that he has urged Vinod Rai, COA chief, to look into the matter. Sachin said neither cricket or football fans should be disappointed.
Sachin’s tweet will put additional pressure on KCA to reconsider its decision.
The Jawaharlal Nehru stadium is the home ground of Sachin’s Kerala Blasters and had hosted the matches of the FIFA under-17 World Cup last year.
The KCA’s decision has come in for a lot of criticism from football fans who are peeved at the prospect of the world-class turf at the stadium being dug up for laying cricket pitches.
Already, a campaign #savekochituf has been started by football fans and is trending on social media
