Premier League Transfer News: Manchester United Concerns Over Superstar, Tottenham To Lose Key Player
Fears that history may repeat itself at Old Trafford have grown in the past few weeks—and not the kind they will have wanted.
Manchester United has been one of the most active clubs in the transfer market, but today’s transfer roundup includes concerns that one deal may have gone wrong.
There’s also bad news for Tottenham as they prepare to lose one of their key defenders—but Chelsea are boosted by the words of their anchor in midfield.
Here, Newsweek guides you through all the news and rumors swirling around the Premier League:
Alexis Sanchez’s arrival at Manchester United in the January window was meant to reinvigorate Jose Mourinho’s team, bolstering them in a fight for the Champions League and FA Cup. Instead, the Daily Mail says there are concerns the Chilean will be another Angel di Maria, the Argentine winger whose brief spell was much-hyped before he left for Paris Saint-Germain as a big-name flop.
In North London, Tottenham are resigned to losing their strongest defender in the summer as Toby Alderweireld is set for the exit, according to HLN. Real Madrid are one of the clubs meant to be interested, but Spurs are seeking at least £44 million for the 29-year-old Belgian center-back.

Over in the west of London, Chelsea has been boosted after central midfielder N’Golo Kante said he felt “at home” at Stamford Bridge. This is despite rumors of a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain, the Daily Express said. The 26-year-old Frenchman has been a key figure in Antonio Conte’s midfield, helping the club to the Premier League title last summer.
With Riyad Mahrez expected to leave Leicester City in the summer, following his winter strike after being refused a move to Manchester City, the club are preparing replacements. According to the Leicester Mercury, Basel winger Mohamed Elyounoussi is one of the players on the radar.
Liverpool are determined not to sell Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah this summer and are boosted by the fact there is no release clause in his contract, according to ESPN. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in the 25-year-old, who already has 28 goals in the Premier League this season.
Instead, Jurgen Klopp will look to strengthen his team this summer by making a move for Roma goalkeeper Alisson, according to The Sun. The Brazilian is nowhere near a new deal at the Serie A club.
