Burlington firefighters are on the scene of a fire at recycling facility on Harvester Road, west of Appleby Line.

Just after three this afternoon, fire crews were called to Mainstream Metals after a large pile of recyclables caught fire.

Halton regional police said on Twitter that the fire initially started with a vehicle inside the plant, and then caught on to a scrap pile.

The flames and billowing smoke are causing a visual distraction for motorists in the area — including commuters on the QEW.

Police have closed Harvester Road at South Service Road and Fraser Drive.

No one has been hurt.
