Professional networking firm LinkedIn has released a list of the top 25 companies in India that individuals would like to work for.

In a blog post, LinkedIn said that the list represents companies for which professionals most want to work across India, based on the actions of the its users.

The company's user base comprises of over 546 million professionals, of which over 47 million are in India alone.

The list is based on the billions of actions of LinkedIn members, and looks at four aspects -- interest in the company, engagement with the company’s employees, demand for jobs at the company, and employee retention.

The list excluded Microsoft, and LinkedIn itself.

Abhigyan Chand, News Editor, India at LinkedIn in a blog post said that the company's analysis only includes companies with over 500 employees.

He added that it takes into account actions from the 12 months ending January and considers a company’s wholly-owned subsidiaries as one with the parent company, to arrive at the final score and description.

Technology major Directi topped the list, followed by e-commerce major Flipkart, One97 Communications (Paytm), global e-commerce giant Amazon, and global brewing company AB InBev.

Chand also said that the methodology is designed to measure interest in the jobs a company has to offer and its people, as well as a its ability to retain employees.

Factors that set apart companies at the top of the list were flexibility, grooming young talent and making employees stakeholders in the company's growth.

For instance, Amazon (ranked 4 on the India list) offers new parents eight weeks of partial work hours so they can acclimatise to their new schedules.

Similarly, PwC (ranked 19) gives employees enough time to address urgent personal matters with tools like ‘Flexible Fridays’.

Making employees stakeholders in growth was also an important factor considered for the list.

For example, One97 Communications, which runs Paytm, offers stock plans to top performers, aside from an annual bonus. Similarly, every two out of  three employees at Adobe (rank 12) are enrolled in its stock option plans.

Having a stress-free work environment also plays a pivotal role. For instance, McKinsey & Company (ranked 6) encourages employees to take 5-10 extra weeks off to pursue their passion, get a pilot’s licence, write a book or attend to family matters.

Similarly, employees at MakeMyTrip (at rank 18) have memberships to sports clubs and yoga classes, and participate in foosball challenges and bowling competitions.
