Salesforce to buy Mulesoft, valuing company at $6.5 billion
Salesforce.com Inc. announced an agreement to acquire Mulesoft Inc. on Tuesday afternoon, confirming a report that sent Mulesoft shares soaring during the regular trading session. Salesforce said it agreed to pay $36 in cash and fractional Salesforce shares for each share of Mulesoft, which would add up to a price of $44.89 a share. Mulesoft, which specializes in application programming interfaces, or APIs, went public at $17 a share a year ago and closed Monday at $33.03, about 36% lower than the price Salesforce agreed to pay. Salesforce said it would fund the deal with cash and about $3 billion in loans and debt issuances. Mulesoft shares shot to all-time highs after Reuters reported the deal was in the works Tuesday, closing up 27.2% at $42. The stock added about 3.5% in late trading after the deal was officially announced.
