MADURAI

A woman daily wage worker moved the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday seeking compensation for her minor son, who suffered serious injuries in a fall from the third floor of a building during the course of his training.

The petitioner, Meharunisha, said her son Mohamed Faizal (16) was studying AC Mechanism course at Surabi Group of Colleges in Dindigul. During his second year, the management sent him to Golden Point AC Company in Chennai for practical training.

As part of the training, he was sent to an apartment complex in Chennai to install an airconditioner in a house on the third floor on July 4, 2017. But, he was not provided with any safety gear. While installing the AC, he lost his balance and fell on the ground, sustaining grievous injuries.

The petitioner said her son was admitted to a private hospital in Chetpet and later shifted to the Government General Hospital in a critical condition.

Based on his mother’s complaint, Chetpet police registered a first information report in connection with the incident on July 11, 2017. Ms. Meharunisha said the family was finding it difficult to manage the medical expenses of her son. She sought compensation from the company in which he was undergoing training and the college management for their negligence.

Justice V. Bharathidasan directed notice, returnable by four weeks, to the college management and the AC company.
