Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today said the government is focussing on four major aspects to achieve the goal of doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
These include reducing input costs, ensuring the fair price for the produce, reducing wastage and creating alternate sources of income.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, the Minister said, an Inter-Ministerial Committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of CEO, National Rainfed Area Authority in 2016 to examine issues relating to doubling of farmers’ income and recommend a strategy to achieve the same by 2022.
Mr Singh said, the government is implementing various schemes to strengthen storage infrastructure for procurement of crops in the country. He said, the subsidy linked Central Sector Scheme is being implemented to create scientific storage capacity for storing farm produce and to reduce post-harvest storage losses.
He said, under the scheme 65.14 million metric tonne storage capacity has been sanctioned till January this year. Mr Singh also said, the government is implementing various schemes and programmes focused on promoting sharecropping and encouraging mixed cropping to increase benefits of farming to the poor farmers.
