On the first day of spring Martha’s Vineyard was preparing for a winter storm expected to bring snow and high winds to coastal Massachusetts on Wednesday into Thursday.

The winter weather would be the fourth storm in the last three weeks and comes on the heels of a blizzard a week ago that knocked out power on large parts of the Island, with pockets of the Vineyard in the dark for several days.

According to the National Weather Service a winter storm warning is in effect from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday. The Vineyard could see snow accumulation of four to eight inches, according to the National Weather Service, and northeast winds of 20 miles per hour and gusts of up to 60 miles per hour.

High winds are most likely Wednesday night into Thursday morning, according to the weather service, with a high wind warning from 8 a.m. Wednesday to noon Thursday.

The Steamship Authority said cancellations are likely on Wednesday and possibly Thursday. For more information visit steamshipauthority.com.
