PATNA: A group of youths carrying a JD (U) flag allegedly thrashed constable Mila Devi while she was on duty at the police checkpost near Kargil Chowk in the city on Tuesday.

The constable received several blows on her face and head. The checkpost was also vandalised by the attackers. An FIR was later lodged by the constable in the Gandhi Maidan police station against unknown people.

The youths were earlier chasing a man from the S K Memorial Hall premises, where a youth meet was organised by JD (U) leader Ashok Choudhary. He entered the police checkpost to save himself.

The constable tried to save the man from being thrashed but ended up being attacked by the assailants. They later fled from the spot.

Patna zone IG Nayyar Hasnain Khan said strict action would be taken against the culprits after they were identified with the help of CCTV footage. City SP (central) D Amarkesh and DSP (town) S A Hashmi have been asked to look into the matter, Khan said.
