North Wales Coast Junior Cup

Valley Football Club were the toast of Anglesey after reaching the NWCFA Junior Cup semi-finals with a fantastic 3-2 victory at Gwynedd League high-flyers Bontnewydd last Saturday.

With Holyhead Town also advancing to the last four on a walkover after opponents Rhyl FC Youth were unable to raise a side, two Anglesey teams are into the penultimate stage with Gwalchmai also in contention to join them if they get past Llansannan.

Anglesey League leaders Valley produced the star performance of last weekend, their tie having been switched to Bontnewydd due to the weather making the islanders' pitch unplayable.

Valley opted to play with the wind in the first half and after creating numerous chances they found the back of the net when a Mike Williams shot rebounded off the keeper into the path of Jordie Lees, who fired home the opener.

Bontnewydd were gifted an equaliser when an attempted pass-back prompted a mistake from keeper Konner Druce and Aled Steel struck to level the score.

However, Valley soon made it 2-1 when a floated ball from Jack Peters was nodded in by Mike Williams to put the underdogs in front at half time.

Valley go close with this effort against Bontnewydd

Bont pressed early in the second half and managed to get back on terms when a free kick from the halfway line was volleyed in by Simon Kay.

Valley refused to be denied and pushed for that all-important winning third goal. And it came when Marc Wilson used his pace down the left wing to drill the ball across the box for top-scorer Justin Williams to smash home his 29th goal of the season.

Bontnewydd tried everything towards the end to land an equaliser, but a wonder save from keeper Druce kept Valley in front.

Valley: Konner Druce, Jack Peters (Sam Morris 87), Barry Roberts, Ashley Hughes, Luke Miles, Jordie Lees, Mark Hamblin, Nik Kontodious, Mike Williams, Marc Wilson, Justin Williams. Sub: Jamie Owen.

Penrhyncoch (stripes) do battle with FC Queen's Park

Porthmadog manager Craig Papirnyk could not have been more proud after his team produced a magnificent performance to win 3-1 at Guilsfield in the Huws Gray Alliance.

Sion Bradley struck twice for the visitors to make it five goals in two games following his midweek treble in a 4-2 victory against Holyhead Hotspur.

The Traeth outfit had to play the last half-hour with 10 men after midfielder Rob Evans received a second yellow card.

Papirnyk said: “I cannot commend my players enough after that performance in horrid conditions and down to 10 at one of the toughest places in the league.

"We showed great resilience and character."

Joe Chaplin struck a post and missed a great early chance for the travelling side before Guils took a 28th minute lead, Adam Jenkins beating Richard Harvey from a tight angle.

Seven minutes before the interval Julian Williams gave Port a deserved equaliser, racing towards the near post to meet Gareth Jones Evans’ corner to head past goalkeeper Lee Andrew.

After Evans' dismissal Port were really up against it, but defended magnificently as Guils attacked incessantly, Chris Cathrall firing one attempt against the upright.

A draw would have been a great result in the circumstances but Bradley had other ideas. Twice he spearheaded two excellent counter attacks to provide Port with the goals that gave them the three points.

With league leaders Caernarfon Town’s game at Holywell Town postponed, second-place Airbus UK Broughton missed the chance to close the gap to one point when they were held 1-1 at home by Denbigh Town.

FC Queen's Park went down 3-1 at Penrhyncoch.

Tom Williams put the Wrexham side in front, but a superb 40-yard effort from Jon Evans made it 1-1.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men before the interval when Matthew Jones was sent off for a foul on Evans. The resultant penalty was put away by Evans to make it 2-1 at the break.

Steff Davies scored early in the second half to seal maximum points for the Roosters.
