Accused, along with three others, was living on rent in an outhouse

A 60-year old woman, staying along with her mentally-challenged son, was found murdered at her house in Puthenvelikkara village in North Paravur on Monday.

Molly, wife of late Davis of Palatti house, was found lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom on the ground floor of the two-storey building. An Assam native, Munna, 28, who was living in the outhouse on rent with three other migrant workers, was taken into custody and charged with the murder (IPC 392).

According to the police, the victim suffered deep injuries on her head inflicted with a heavy object. “We suspect the accused made a sexual assault bid. However, we can state that conclusively only after getting the post mortem report. Forensic and fingerprint experts have collected evidence,” said a senior police officer. Molly was living along with her son Deny, while her daughter Emi is in Scotland. Her husband died three years ago.

The body was first spotted by a person living in their neighbourhood after her son had complained of Molly not responding to his calls. “Her room was locked from outside. The key was recovered from the next room and upon opening the door, the woman was found lying half-naked in a pool of blood,” the police said.

On an alert, the police rushed to the scene and collected evidence. They also recorded the statement of the four tenants, all migrant labourers staying in the outhouse.

The police took Munna into custody on noticing bloodstains on his slipper. According to sources, he admitted to the crime during interrogation. “He said he was in an inebriated condition and attacked the woman with a stone,” they said. The police are awaiting forensic and fingerprint and autopsy reports for further investigations.
