The Ministry of External Affairs, on a mission to improve delivery of public services, has opened a Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in Nalgonda here on Monday. It is the 171st such branch in the country.
Through the POPSK, one can now approach the head post office with any three of the 12 mandated documents, and get a passport in a week. “Several rules, including the tatkal mode, have been simplified keeping in mind people in small towns and villages,” Regional Passport Officer E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy said.
Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukhender Reddy said, “The post office at the old town established in 1908 now has safety issues and lacks a vehicle parking facility. We were able to shift the entire infrastructure to a new premises (ward 16).”
The POPSK has a processing zone, a verification and granting zone, and the head post office continues to offer a variety of services.
A commemorative poster, identifying the red post box and a passport office, was launched by Minister for Energy and SC Development G. Jagadish Reddy. It will be put up at the Collectorate and mandal post offices for public awareness.
Postal Directorate Member (Operations) Usha Chandra Sekhar, Chief Postmaster General B. Chandrsekhar, Collector Gaurav Uppal and SP A.V. Ranganath were present.
