Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt on Monday said the Union government should not accept the recommendation of the State government for a separate religion tag to the Lingayat community. The Centre should also reject the minority community tag to both Lingayat and Veerashaiva communities, he said.
The seer said the State government should itself take back its recommendation. This recommendation was nothing but a ploy to divide the Hindu community. This recommendation, if accepted, will create more problems for Dalits and Backward communities.
Both the Lingayat and Veerashaiva community believed in the supremacy of Lord Shiva. Hence, they were not separate communities, but one, despite differences in their traditions. “These divisions being created were aimed at dividing the Hindu community,” he said.
