Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping and Water Resources Nitin Gadkari said that his ministry is launching Goa-Mumbai-Goa cruise from April 2018. “This will generate employment in the local tourism sector,” he added.

Speaking further, Gadkari said that water transport cuts down the logistical cost, and with this concept in mind a ferry service has been launched today between Panaji and Vasco. “Furthermore, we are exploring the possibility as regards tourists, who would be arriving at the proposed Mopa airport, directly travelling to their hotel and vice versa, on the lines of Venice,” he added.

Gadkari also informed that for the local fishermen, a fishing terminal is being constructed, which would have facilities like canteen, godown, facility for auctioning and so on. “We have also finalised the scheme for trawlers, which would allow them to travel 200 nautical miles into the deep sea instead of the existing 12 nautical miles,” he concluded, while noting that there is a provision of some subsidy to equip these trawlers well, for such a travel.
