From walk out at Colombo to Mahmudullah's clash with Jos Buttler, occasions when Bangladesh lost their cool on cricket field
Bangladesh’s growth and their fearless brand of cricket is appreciated by the cricketing world, but their mindless behaviour and usage of non-cricketing means have led to interfere their ascendancy.
After Dinesh Karthik's last-ball six won a thrilling final, the young Indian side burst into euphoric celebrations with jubilant players gushing out on to the pitch to congratulate Karthik for his heroics.
Even the Sri Lankan crowds were backing the Rohit Sharma-led side and the Men in Blue made it a point to take victory lap across the Premadasa stadium. Sri Lankan super fan Percy Abeysekera, alias Uncle Percy, joined the team and reveled in the joyous occasion.
The Indian captain thanked the supporters for coming out in numbers to cheer for the Indian side.
With Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan unable to keep his emotions in check, by animatedly asking his players to leave the field. Bangladesh’s substitute, Nurul Hasan, pointing fingers and getting involved in heated arguments with Sri Lankan players sullied the previous game against the hosts.
The rage extended beyond the match with Bangladesh dressing room glass door left broken.
Match referee Chris Broad has reportedly seen the CCTV footage of the incident and spoken with the catering staff who have told him about the person/player responsible for shattering the glass, as per a report in ESPNcricinfo.
ICC handed fines to Shakib and Nurul with the former also reprimanded with a demerit point.
The emotionally charged incident left a sour taste among the fans with the Lankan faithful coming in large numbers to support the Indian side in the final against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has made rapid strides in international cricket, especially after reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 2015 and following it with ODI series win against Pakistan, South Africa and India.
Whilst, in Tests they registered their first ever win against England in 2016 and Australia in 2017, which has led to a boisterous fan following that is swelling by the day.
However, Bangladesh’s rise in stature in world cricket is maligned by using of non-cricketing means to get under the skins of their oppositions, crying foul over umpiring decisions and going on to play the victim every time.
Bangladesh's ever-growing confidence has manifest itself into their on-field aggression which they tend to go overboard with.
The indignation at Colombo wasn’t the first occasion where they expressed their outrage, here are few other occasions when Bangladesh had run-ins with international sides:
vs Australia in 2017
When Australia toured Bangladesh last year, the home team was brimming with confidence and were not afraid to compete against the mighty Aussies. Few players were seen having verbal duels. They even fired back at the opposition.
Senior pacer Mashrafe Mortaza was quoted saying, “I would always tell them to look into the opposition's eye when they are looking at you,” after Bangladesh handed the visitors a shock 20-run defeat in the first Test.
Tamim Iqbal was one of the players that was seen lurking around the opposition batsmen and was one of the more chirpy players.
With Australian batsmen trying to waste time in the Test by calling for changing gloves regularly. Iqbal debated with umpires and later when the Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade was dismissed, he made sure he was given a ‘proper’ send-off.
Expectedly Iqbal was handed one demerit point by ICC after the match in Mirpur.
vs England in 2016
England were eager to avenge their World Cup 2015 defeat that led to their ouster before the knockouts when they toured Bangladesh in 2016.
After winning the first ODI, they restricted Bangladesh to 238. England stumbled in the chase after the hosts ripped through their top order. Johnny Bairstow and captain Jos Buttler stitched an important 78-run stand to claw back in the game. With Taskin Ahmed getting the wicket of Bairstow at the right time, Bangladesh triggered a collapse. They sniffed victory when they overturned the ‘not out’ call of the standing umpire via Decision Review System (DRS) to claim the wicket of Butler. Players broke into wild celebrations roaring in the face of the departing batsman. Understandably Buttler wasn’t amused and he stopped in his tracks and engaged in some unfriendly chatter. Bangladesh’s all-rounder Mahmudullah didn’t hold back as he charged towards the batsmen. Other members of the team and the two umpires had to step in to pacify the situation.
After the hosts won the game, some flared up exchanges took place between Ben Stokes and Tamim Iqbal as the teams were shaking hands. Again the players had to intervene to douse the situation.
Bangladesh fans are infamous for their immature and crass conduct on social media platforms be it regarding photoshopped image of Taskin Ahmed carrying the severed head of MS Dhoni or one of the incidents that was heavily criticised during Asia Cup in 2016, a year after a Bangladeshi newspaper produced a fake 'cutter' advertisement with Mustafizur Rahman endorsing the cutter and Indian cricketers are seen standing with their heads half-shaven.
The passion and fandom among supporters, although over-the-top is understandable, but to see even top cricketers and functionaries getting involved is astonishing.
Mushfiqur Rahim's irresponsible tweet after India lost to West Indies in the World T20 in 2016 drew ire from Indian fans. Later Rahim apologised and deleted his tweet as well.
Mustafa Kamal behaved in an imbecile manner when he decided to resign as the President of International Cricket Council’s (ICC) after a contentious decision ruled against their liking during the quarter-final fixture against India in World Cup 2015.
Furthermore, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina expressed her resentment by saying, “There's nothing to be upset. Everyone has seen how we were made to lose. We will win in the future.”
Rubel Hossain vs Virat Kohli
Rubel Hossain and Virat Kohli’s rivalry is no secret either. If you’re a cricket fan and have spent reasonable hours on youtube, there is a high chance you must have come across the video wherein the duo trade a few ‘pleasantries’ during the 2011 World Cup tie.
Four years later in the same tournament, when the bowler induced an error from India’s star batsman, the whole team went overboard with the celebrations.

Bangladesh is not a cricketing nation in its nascent stages with a slew of senior members present in the side. The team needs them to double up as mentors.
