Toyota Supra to be Built by Magna Steyr in Austria

The Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 will be built alongside each other in Magna Steyr’s plant in Graz, Austria. Magna Steyr is a division of automotive supplier Magna International. It often builds specialized vehicles on contract for automakers at its plant in Graz, and will reportedly be tasked with building the heavily related Toyota Supra and BMW Z4. The two vehicles were developed hand-in-hand with each other and will share a platform, powertrain and likely other parts as well.

A Magna spokesperson declined to comment on the matter in a statement made to Automotive News, which initially broke the story.

Other vehicles built at Magna Styer’s Graz plant include the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which has been constructed there since 1979, along with the Jaguar E-Pace crossover and certain versions of the BMW 5-Series. The fully electric Jaguar I-Pace will also go into production at the Graz site this year.

The new Toyota Supra, along with the BMW Z4, is expected to be powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged BMW inline-six engine making about 335 hp. It’s also rumored to tip the scales at just over 3,200 lbs.

Both cars are expected to make their debut later this year before going on sale sometime in 2019.
