AMD says no performance impact for newly disclosed security flaws

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. AMD, -2.80% addressed a report earlier this month that its chips were uniquely susceptible to specific attacks. In a blog post posted late Tuesday, the company acknowledged the vulnerabilities' existence and but said that to deploy each exploit would require administrative access to the system. That level of access gives a user the ability to change system settings, delete files and have access to a "wide range of attacks at their disposal well beyond the exploits," the company said. The vulnerabilities are not expected to have performance impact and the company expects to release patches in the "coming weeks." The initial report of the vulnerability came from a small Israeli security company called CTS Labs, which gave AMD less than a day to respond. AMD stock is up less than 1% in late trading, after closing down 2.8% to $11.11. Shares of AMD are up 8% this year, as the benchmark S&P 500 index SPX, +0.15% has gained 1.5%.
