LAKELAND — Greg Williams of Lakeland has dropped out of the Democratic primary for a change to face incumbent Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Lakeland.

Williams said he is ending his campaign to focus on supporting the efforts of Andrew Learned, one of Ross' potential Democratic opponents, and another Democrat, Bob Doyel, who is challenging Florida Sen. Kelli Stargel, R-Lakeland. Williams' departure leaves five Democrats still in the race to oppose Ross: Phil Hornback of Brandon, Cameron Magnuson of Brandon, Ray Pena of Lakeland, Greg Pilkington of Indian Lake Estates and Learned of Valrico.

The primary election is scheduled for Aug. 28. May 4 is the deadline to file for the primary.

Loretta Miller of Clermont has filed to oppose Ross in the Republican primary election. An independent, Dave Johnson of Lakeland, has also filed to run in the district.
