Madivi Bheema alias Bhadru, an underground cadre of the CPI (ML-New Democracy) Ramanna group, was captured alive and three 8-mm rifles were seized after a brief exchange of fire between the armed cadres of the outfit and a police team in the Vulvanoor forest area in Palvancha mandal on Saturday, police said.
Saturday’s encounter occurred when police, during the course of search operation, came under fire from the members of the Ramanna group affiliated armed squad prompting them to return fire in self-defence.
While the police detained Bhadru soon after the cessation of exchange of fire, other members of the armed squad managed to escape from the incident site, sources said.
The police recovered three weapons, ammunition and kit bags besides ₹ 8890 from the encounter site.
Producing Bheema alias Bhadru before the media in Kothagudem on Sunday, Superintendent of Police Ambar Kishor Jha said the police maintained restraint and captured Bhadru, a member of the Ramanna squad, alive in the exchange of fire at Vulvanoor forest area on Saturday evening. He appealed to members of all the underground outfits to relinquish the path of violence and join the mainstream.
Officer on Special Duty, Kothagudem, Uday Kumar Reddy, and others were present.
