Prayers offered to Siva, Parvathi

Donning traditional attire in eye-catching colours, members of Maheswari Mahila Samiti took out Shoba Yatra from Pandurangapuram temple to Hawa Mahal on Beach Road, marking Gangaur festival on Sunday.

The yatra followed by cultural show was supported by Maheswari Sabha, Maheswari Yuva Manch and Marwari Yuva Munch. The festival is celebrated in Rajasthan and various parts of North India.

Secretary of Maheswari Mahila Samiti Nisha Periwal said that the festival symbolises the worship of Lord Siva and his consort goddess Gauri (Parvathi). “While married women pray for the longevity of their husbands and healthy married life, unmarried girls offer prayers to be blessed with suitable grooms,” she said.

Several Rajasthani families made their way to Hawa Mahal to witness a row of cultural programmes presented by the members of community associations.

President of Maheswari Mahila Samiti Kiran Jhawar, among other members attended the programme.
