Tupou out long term, Robinson in line for Roosters debut
Reece Robinson could play his first NRL game in more than two years after the Roosters confirmed towering winger Daniel Tupou will miss up to 12 weeks with a pectoral tear.
Robinson, who returned to rugby league after a brief stint with the Waratahs in Super Rugby, could suit up for a fourth NRL club after previous stints at the Broncos, Raiders and Eels. His last NRL match was in 2015.
Tupou was helped from the field clutching his pectoral in the Roosters' 30-12 win over the Bulldogs last Friday night, potentially paving the way for Robinson to force his way into the tricolours' top 17 for their clash with Newcastle on Sunday. Tupou is expected to miss between 10-12 weeks.
There was better news over the health of Mitchell Aubusson, who left the field with a nasty head gash which required 12 stitches, as a result of friendly fire from co-captain Jake Friend.
"I knew as soon as I got him," Friend said on Monday. "I was like, 'sorry, Aubs'. There was blood everywhere and a few stitches for him is not too bad. He's married with a kid so his modelling career is done."
