The update to the New Car Assessment Program ratings system will be a big part of the future for inspiring the auto industry and must be perfectly clear to increase our driving safety ("NHTSA falling behind on auto regulations, lawmakers say," autonews.com, Feb. 14). Other issues that have yet to be addressed are updates to automatic transmission shifting and even airbag safety standards. There are no bills to be passed to amend existing regulations, and since safety is a bipartisan issue, updating safety regulation standards is the obvious place to start.
