A day after a 27-year-old man allegedly committed suicide, a married woman in the same building was found hanging in north-east Delhi’s Usmanpur on Sunday, the police said.
Ruby (37) was found hanging while her toddler son was asleep in the room, said DCP (North-East), A.K. Singla, adding that no suicide note has been recovered.
Ruby is survived by her husband and three children. Her husband works in a garments shop in Gandhi Nagar.
“Two locals claimed the deceased were in a relationship but these claims are yet to be verified. We are trying to find a link between the deaths,” he said.
Raees, who allegedly hanged himself on Saturday, lived with his brother and a friend in a one-room set on the same floor as Ruby. He worked at a plastic manufacturing unit. “His brother was unable to give any possible reason for the suicide but said Raees often appeared troubled and was unusually quiet,” he said.
Ruby had allegedly wept inconsolably after learning of Raees’s death. “The husband said he managed to console her and she even cooked for the family before he left for work on Sunday,” said Mr. Singla.
Soon after he left, Ruby allegedly sent her two daughters — aged seven and three years — out to play. Her body was discovered when the elder daughter returned home, the police added.
