Steve Elkins, co-founder and longtime executive director of CAMP Rehoboth, died from lymphoma, according to the organization's Facebook page. "As he did throughout his life, fighting for the rights of so many in this state, he fought lymphoma with courage and dignity until the very end," the post stated late Thursday night. Elkins leaves behind his husband, Murray Archibald, and their family, according to the Facebook post. Arrangements are forthcoming, and the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center will remain open throughout the day as a place to gather. Produced by Gray Hughes

Rehoboth Beach commissioners unanimously voted on Friday to approve a $21 million budget for the next fiscal year.

After doubling the rental tax late last year, which will bring in an additional $975,000, commissioners also approved multiple parking permit increases, according to a city news release.

Weekly permits will increase from $60 to $80, three-day weekend permits from $35 to $45, weekend daily from $15 to $20, and the weekday daily from $10 to $15.

The largest hikes are for Deauville Beach, where seasonal permits will increase from $75 to $250, and daily permits from $10 to $20, and at City Hall, where bus permits for parking will rise from $50 to $250.

“We’re moving up in terms of permit prices so that we can start to fund critical projects," City Manager Sharon Lynn said in the release, adding that the budget will prioritize public safety, growth and increasing operational efficiencies.
