Student activist group Making a Difference by Being the Difference (MAD) will send a special team of its own volunteers to document the problems of residents on both sides of Rispana river and submit the suggestions to the high powered committee on Rispana rejuvenation lead by the Chief Minister.

The group members reached this decision while undertaking a special walk on the riverbed on Sunday during which they came across several residents dumping garbage on the riverbed.

About 60 members of the group started their walk from the main gate of Doon University and from there went to the Mothrowala sewage treatment plant before proceeding upstream on the riverbed.

During the walk, it was noticed that the riverbed was completely covered with plastic, polythene and human faecal matter.

After covering some distance on the garbage covered and sewer filled riverbed, the youngsters got into an argument with local residents who were caught dumping their waste into the river near Deepnagar. On being reprimanded, the locals protested and pointed out that the civic administration had made no facility for disposal of waste.

At the end of the activity, scores of volunteers and members from the organisation participated in an impromptu street play that was conducted on the banks of river Rispana with several slums dwellers and local residents as the audience.
