ACB officials trap clerk

Anti-Corruption Bureau officials trapped a clerk who was accepting a bribe from a trader for giving a copy of land records, in Khanapur in Belagavi district on Monday.

Ramesh Mundawadagi, a clerk in the Khanapur town panchayat, had sought Rs. 25,000 from Bharat Kumar, who had recently purchased a piece of land in the town. Kumar paid Rs. 10,000 and informed the ACB police. They advised him to hand over the cash while they were accompanying him in disguise. When the complainant was handing over Rs. 15,000 to the clerk, the police arrested the accused. A team led by ACB SP Amarnath Reddy supervised the operation.
