According to DSP Sujit Kumar, 2 persons have been held for twin shootouts in Palamu. They are Kanhaiyya Dayal Shukla and Pradip Mehta. Both have been remanded to judicial custody on Sunday.
Giving details, Sujit Kumar said the shootouts took place on March 9 under two different police stations of Palamu namely Chainpur and Lesliganj. The common perc eption about the firings was that it was carried out by men of a notorious gangster Bandhu Shukla.
Under Chainpur police station, a staff of a construction company was fired up who survived the bid on life whereas the other took place at a construction site of a polytechnic college under Lesliganj police station. Here too the victim survived.The incidents had created panic in the town. In a week’s time, police nabbed two alleged gangster of Bandhu Shukla’s gang.
Kanhaiyya Dayal Shukla used to prepare situation for shooter to strike as he used to do recce of police and set timing for the shootout while the other Pradip Mehta is a serial habitual offender of law, has been to jail on charges of murder and possessing illicit arms in the past, added Sujit Kumar.
Both have been sent to central jail Daltonganj on Sunday. Police have recovered 3 cell phones from these two. The DSP said Kanhaiyya was in touch with gangster Bandhu Shukla and used to converse with him for commission of crime at his behest.
