All three benchmarks ended off their lows of the session, but weighed by selling in technology shares, amid a data scandal tied to how Facebook Inc. FB, -6.77% has managed user information during the 2016 presidential campaign. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq are both positive for the year, with the S&P 500 up 1.5% so far this year and the Nasdaq boasting a return of 6.4%.
