For the second time in three years, Cornerstone Christian’s Michael Bothwell is Ohio’s Division IV Player of the Year.
D-III and IV All-Ohio Players of the Year and teams were announced by the OHSAA March 19. Bothwell is also a finalist for the state’s Mr. Basketball award, to be announced March 21.
The 6-foot-3 senior averaged 24.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game for the Patriots during the regular season. Defensively, he’s a part of Cornerstone’s lockdown guards alongside Jeremy Owens, Titus Wheeler and Dontavius Henry.
Bothwell has helped lead Cornerstone to its second state berth in three seasons. He led all scorers with 29 points in an emotional D-IV Orwell District semifinal win against Warren JFK, which eliminated the Patriots from last season’s state tournament. Bothwell scored 13 in Cornerstone’s district title win over Bristol.
Bothwell scored a game-high 22 points in the Patriots’ D-IV Canton regional semifinal win against Rittman. He led all scorers with 21 points in Cornerstone’s regional title victory against Mansfield St. Peter’s, the state’s No. 1-ranked team which entered the regional final at 27-0.
Bothwell is Cornerstone’s all-time leading scorer. He surpassed the 2,000-point threshold Feb. 20.
Bothwell signed with Furman University prior to the season.
