SURAT: Crime branch sleuths arrested three men on Monday for their alleged involvement in an attempt to derail a train on December 28 morning by placing benches on the railway tracks. Police beleive that the accused wanted to mount pressure on police to allow them to transport ganja in train without disturbance. Police arrested
Babla Durjan Das, 38, resident of Ashok Nagar on AK Road, Biranji Khandal Behra, 21, Ashwini Kumar slums and Balram alias Musa Vijay Shetty, 18, Patel Nagar, all three living in Varachha area. The accused are native of Ganjam district in Odisha and live in the city since last many years. Police identified involvement of one more accused Dilip Archit Pandi, a resident of Katargam, but he is yet to get arrested. The offence was registered in Katargam police station of the city and considering its seriousness, the investigation was handed over to crime branch.
In a joint operation by SM Trivedi and TA Gadhvi, both police sub inspectors of DCB, the accused were nabbed. Police investigation revealed that other 10 accused are involved in the attempt.
Another attempt to derail train was reported on Sunday in which some unidentified persons had put a cement block on tracks near Udhna railway station.
Dehradun Express train hit the cement block which stuck under the engine. It was removed by railway engineers and only after that the train could move. Since the train was running in slow speed, it did not derail, police informed.
