The body of a former Archmere Academy rugby player, who went missing in Bermuda over the weekend, has been found in a moat, authorities said on Monday.

"It is with sadness that Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 19-year-old Mark Dombroski," Bermuda's Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police James Howard said. "We the police service extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends and to the community."

Dombroski's body was found at the base of a colonial-era fort, police said.

He had been seen alone at 1:09 a.m. Sunday, March 18, "walking east along Front Street just past the junction with King Street," Howard had said earlier in the day.

The area where Dombroski's body was found, not far from Devonshire Police Headquarters, was cordoned off and officers there were investigating the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled.

Investigators said Dombroski was last seen alive at 1:15 a.m., walking east alone on Middle Road near Shelton Road.

"We continue to appeal for witnesses and anyone with information," Howard said.

Dombroski, a student at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, traveled to the island nation, located more than 600 miles off the coast of North Carolina,  to participate in a tournament with his college rugby team. He was supposed to leave the island later Sunday.

The former Archmere student whose family lives in Media, Pennsylvania, had been seen earlier in the evening at The Dog House, a bar in the capital city of Hamilton, according to the Bermuda Police Service.

The bar is more than a mile west of where Dombroski's body was found.

Police had issued fliers late Sunday which said “he is still missing and there is concern for his well being,” according to Bernews, a Bermuda news agency.

Dombroski was a rugby player for Archmere Academy in Claymont, according to the St. Joseph University team's website.

The Hawks, his current team, played in the Ariel Re International 7's Tournament in Hamilton's National Sports Stadium, according to the team's website.
